To Paint or Not...That is the Question

My neighbor gave me  this cool halltree a while back.  I do love it but look at it ever so often and wonder what white would look like.  Everything in the room is painted white.  What would u do???  judy

  1. I say NO..don't paint it. Maybe it needs some tung oil to cheer it up! It's a lovely piece.

  2. I wouldn't be the one to ask, I've been agonizing over a few pieces myself... beautiful Patina on Antique Wood that is dark... I prefer painted pieces, but then again, don't want to spoil the aged to perfection Patina either. *Le Sigh* The only pieces I haven't struggled with that decision is a piece so badly aged or abused that painting it improves it significantly & I feel no regrets about it... wish I could be bolder... good luck with your decision.

Thanks also for your sweet words about our Grand-Daughter, yes, I Love the sense of Style all my G-Kids have. Each has been bold about being individually unique & authentically expressive about their own preferences regardless of trends & naturally I like that since that's how I roll. *winks* You can't beat being true to Self IMO.

  3. I would leave it the way it is. I have a antique table & 6 pressed back chairs that I stripped years ago & I sometimes think that they would look so good painted white but then I remember how much work it was to remove all that old paint. If it is still in good shape & looks good then I would just keep it the way it is now. I like to mix it up with my painted pieces too. :)

  4. Hi there....I just popped into your blog from SavvyCityFarmer and am enjoying reading thru your posts. The Hall Tree is pretty and if the finish is in good shape I'd leave it unpainted for now. BUT...I AM a big fan of painting things and love the new Chalk Paint. It's fun to work with. I've added myself as your newest follower. Hope you drop in and see me sometime soon. Stay Cool....I'm a Texas blogger too and can feel your pain. :)

  7. I love you Judy! You are always good for a comment, and I so appreciated it. Love the hall tree too, and what you did with it. Nice gift, from your neighbor. The only thing my neighbors give me is grief!
